GGTG Daily Practices - Embrace Healing Through Daily Self-Love

The GGTG Program asks participants to commit to at least one Daily Practice. Over time, this daily commitment to oneself builds a foundation on which you walk the path from Good Girl to Goddess, coming into more authenticity, joy and peace.

In our recent series of GGTG Collective discussions, we have focused on the why and how of our Daily Practices, which are:

  • Meditation
  • Coming back into the body
  • Taking time for yourself
  • Daily self-love
  • Journalling
  • Creation, imagination, and play!

These Daily Practices reflect a menu of options that each GGTG participant can select from to commit to giving back to themselves each and every day.

In this blog series, we discuss the purpose behind each of these Daily Practices and the different ways they can be approached. This will allow participants to fit them into their schedule to ignite their joy and their unique sense of authenticity over time.

We started with meditation, moved onto coming into the body, and recently explored the why and how of taking time for ourselves. In today’s blog, we discover the magic behind daily self-love, a key facet of the GGTG Program.

Daily Self-Love – Why?

Let’s start with self-worth – you are worth it, end of. Many of us question whether we have earned the luxury of time for ourselves, which is an aspect of expressing daily self-love. During our GGTG Collective Catch-Up,I shared my experience of wondering why my GP would recommend that I take a spa day during a particularly difficult time in my life – after all, I didn’t deserve it.

That couldn’t have been farther from the truth. We are born worthy of self-love, but over time we come to believe that love is something that must be earned. This false premise sets us up for a lifetime of believing that we have to earn the right to take a break, to have fun, or in my case, to gift ourselves a spa day. I now know that this isn’t true and make an effort to treat myself for no reason at all.

Daily self-love also reorients our attention inward. When we constantly direct our energy outward – looking for confirmation that we are“okay” and always striving to solve others’ problems – we forget to check in on our own inner state. This is essential to a healthy mind, body and soul. If you’re not looking inside, how will you know if you’re run down? If you’re happy? If you need a break?

As we have said many times, the Good Girl often tries to pour from an empty cup. This is not healthy, and it certainly isn’t productive! Turning inward and looking out for number one (that’s you!) will allow you to show up even better for everyone else.

Daily Self-Love – How?

Start where you are, right now. Everything that’s ever happened to you has brought you to where you are at this moment, and whilst we are charting a course to kinder lands, we can appreciate every step we took along the way.

Be kind to yourself – and notice when you’re not. What are you putting before your own comfort, happiness or health? Is that thing really more important than you?

Be intentional about your gestures of self-love and notice what comes up for you. This is a great opportunity to pair this practice with journalling, another GGTG Daily Practice.

We can employ self-love in many different contexts, for example:

-         During meditation – this is the ultimate act of self-love, where we harness our attention in service to our own peace and well-being

-         Choose something from the Bliss List –last time we talked about creating a Bliss List to assist our efforts to comeback into the body. We can choose to do something off the Bliss List as a way of showing ourselves self-love

-         Anytime you take time for yourself, you are engaging in an act of self-love

Here are some tips to get started:

-         Acceptance in the moment – “this is the life I created”

-         Course-correct bit by bit – be mindful of the self-critical voice in the process

-         Be your own biggest fan! Have your own back! Literally fall in love with yourself! Your Goddess will thank you…

What are we trying to achieve?

The GGTG Program is all about gently reorienting our lives overtime so that we occupy the list of our top priorities. We are far less likely to do this if we can’t accept that we are worthy of self-love.

In the absence of self-love, we will continually direct our efforts outward rather than inward, robbing ourselves of the ability to course correct when we’ve gone down the self-critical path again.

Getting to know and accept ourselves in the moment is the first step to charting a new course to true fulfillment. Join the GGTG Collective as we walk the path to heal our Good Girl and embody our Goddess together! Click here to find out more.
